Indigenous Loochuan (Okinawan) Culture

The Loochoo (Ryukyu) Kingdom was an independent island nation whose history has remarkably paralleled the cultural oppression of the Hawaiian Kingdom. A significant percentage of the diaspora of the Loochuan people left their island Kingdom and came to Hawaii, where they witnessed the dispossession of Hawaiian identity and the resulting Hawaiian Renaissance in the 1970s.

This website and movement are dedicated to the preservation and renaissance of Loochoo Nation. Our goals:

  • To raise awareness about indigenous Uchinānchu (Okinawan) culture.

  • To bring people together through this heritage

Dr. Grant Miyashiro of Hilo, Hawaii currently leads this website, with the hope that other like-minded individuals will provide content, guidance, and input in the near future. Together, we maintain the bonds of Loochoo culture and honor its dignity for generations to come.

The Loochoo Kingdom was an independent island nation, and the Uchinānchu are indigenous Okinawan people. The renaissance of Loochoo Nation can flourish with your support.
